How the AI Boom Is Leaving Consultants Behind
From the Dossier
Entry 16 of 26. Section B: Industry-wide structural erosion. Back to the Dossier
Summary
Bristol-Myers Squibb’s technology chief told the Journal the firm ended a year-long generative-AI engagement with a Big Four partner for lack of progress. Merck’s CIO used similar language about consultants “learning on our dime”. AmeriSave’s CIO said outside consultants delivered about the same quality, good or bad, as the company could have built in-house.
Source description
A widely referenced piece on clients souring on AI consulting engagements.
Credibility assessment
On-record client sources and WSJ’s journalistic standards place this at High independence. Under Rule 4, this is strong inductive evidence: named executives making specific claims about their own experiences. The pattern across multiple clients and firms suggests a systemic issue.
